ICYMI: Governor-Elect Spanberger Puts ‘Affordable Virginia Agenda’ Front & Center Going Into 2026

Spanberger’s Joint ‘Affordable Virginia Agenda’ Released With General Assembly Leaders Includes 15+ Bills to Save Virginians Money

FOX5: Spanberger “Is Focusing on Reigning in Healthcare Costs, Energy Prices, & Expanding Affordable Housing”

RICHMOND, Va. — Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger continues to make clear that lowering costs for Virginia families across the Commonwealth will be the top focus on her incoming administration.

Earlier this month, Spanberger joined Virginia House and Senate Democratic leaders at the General Assembly to announce their ‘Affordable Virginia Agenda’ — a legislative package focused on lowering healthcare, housing, and energy costs for families. Last week, Spanberger also penned an op-ed in Fox News underscoring why the affordability crisis is hurting the Commonwealth’s entire economy — including businesses of all sizes.

FOX5 [Washington D.C.]: Governor-Elect Spanberger Announces Affordability Agenda

Virginia’s newly elected Democratic Governor, Abigail Spanberger, will take office next month. She has now released her plans for the Commonwealth’s affordability agenda. She is focusing on reigning in healthcare costs, energy prices, and expanding affordable housing.

“Knowing that costs and overall issues of affordability are on the minds of Virginians everyday, I rolled out a plan over the summer, saying these are the things I’m going to focus on: lowering costs in housing, healthcare, and energy,” said Spanberger. “These are the bills I will work to push through the General Assembly. And in concert with the work I’ll be doing in my administration, these are the steps forward we are taking in working to deliver on promises I made along the campaign trail.”

The Governor-elect is excited for the milestone in Virginia, but she is not letting it distract her from her priorities. She is keeping affordability at the forefront of her agenda as she prepares for office.

“We need to increase housing supply in Virginia,” Spanberger said. “We need to lower costs in energy and we need to contend with real costs in healthcare. And so in each of those three portions of our Affordable Virginia Agenda, we have some legislation that will take a few years to feel. And we have some legislation that, as it moves forward, will have more immediate impact.”

WSET [Lynchburg]: Spanberger touts ‘Affordable Virginia Agenda’

Days before the historic inauguration as the first female governor of Virginia, Abigail Spanberger announced her agenda for her first 100 days in office. Her top priority: affordability.

“A goal for me within those first 100 days is every bill within our Affordable Virginia Agenda, I want those bills to pass through the General Assembly and I want them to make their way to my desk,” said Spanberger.

Fox News: I’m the New Virginia Governor and Affordability Is What Everyone Needs (Opinion)

My incoming administration will be relentlessly focused on making Virginia more affordable — so we can attract and retain the best workers, companies and business leaders. As governor, I will make sure that Virginians have every reason to stay here and build their futures. At the same time, I will make it clear to workers and companies across the country why we are the best place to start a career or expand a business.

Mary Louise Kelly: What are you working toward in 2025?

Spanberger: What I’m working towards is delivering a Virginia that is ultimately more affordable. It’s contending with the issues that matter to voters, to Virginians, to small businesses, to small business owners, to family farmers, to communities across our Commonwealth.
